D-Day 2024

Dartmouth was involved in a number of D-Day preparations and covert channel activities. So D-Day is an important point in our history.

A number of events are happening in the area around 6th June:

Kingswear has the wartime train, ‘Omaha’, running services on the steam railway on 4-6 June.

Greenway House is holding an military display of vehicles and re-enactments, based around the use of the house during the war. 6th June.

A short memorial service will be held on the Dartmouth Embankment to allow the town to reflect. 11am 6th June.

The Dartmouth Town Crier, Les Ellis, will take part in the D-Day 80 Proclamation. 8am 6th June.

A beacon will be lit at Strete as part of a national chain of beacons, and The Lamp Lights of Peace. Look out for beacons across the hills from 9.15pm 6th June.
