Dartmouth has a vibrant foodie sector, with nearly 200 food and drink businesses in the town, and the renowned annual Food Festival it’s an industry that recognises the value in nuturing talent.

Aspiring chefs at Dartmouth Academy will receive a major boost this year as the Dartmouth Food Festival Committee steps in to subsidise ingredient costs for the school’s catering course. The committee has committed to funding the subsidy for the entire academic year and will also support the school in arranging workshops where students can work alongside professional chefs on industry-specific tasks.
Dartmouth Academy students already engage with the food festival annually, gaining hands-on experience from leading chefs and producers. Older students play a pivotal role in helping younger pupils participate in cooking activities, including facilitating interactive sessions in the festival’s main cooking tents. They have also taken part in innovative demonstrations, such as generating power through rowing machines to support cooking equipment.
