The Old Market

Dartmouth Old Market

The lovely Dartmouth Old Market is to be found a short walk from the harbour front and is well worth a visit. Throughout the year markets are held in the square. The weekly Artisan Market is Tuesday and Friday where you can meet lots of local makers. Saturday is another weekly market day, and Thursdays during high season.

The Old Market is also a key venue for several of Dartmouth’s annual events: Music Festival in May, Food Festival in October, and of course the Regatta in August. This beautiful space can also be hired for events.

What is the history of the Dartmouth market?

Built in 1828, this Grade II listed building was originally used by local farms to sell their produce. The beautiful building at the centre of the square is the former Market Court House, whilst the arched entrances to the north and south were built to allow horse-drawn carriages in.

Nowadays the shops, stalls and eateries of the market offer something for everyone, all with a local tone and warm Dartmouth welcome. You will find award winning cream teas, delightful greek food, the freshest local catch at the fishmongers, equally fresh produce, petfood, a vintage boutique, photography, a pottery workshop, vinyl records, a hardware store and various others. Plenty to explore within this delightful space. Shops are open Monday to Saturday.
