Excitement Builds for the Dartmouth Classic Channel Regatta 2024

Dartmouth is buzzing with excitement as we prepare to welcome the magnificent fleet of classic sailing boats arriving for the Dartmouth Classic Channel Regatta 2024. From July 17th to July 25th, our picturesque town will be the heart of a thrilling maritime event, with over 80 classic boats set to moor here by Wednesday, creating a spectacular sight for residents and visitors alike.

This special event is not just a race. It’s a fun event where regatta fans and locals come together for a week of activities and socialising.

Here’s everything you need to know to get the most out of this year’s Dartmouth Classic Channel regatta.

A Week of Nautical Excitement

Wednesday, July 17th: The fun begins with a series of watersport races near Dartmouth Yacht Club from 2 pm. These light-hearted competitions offer a fantastic way for crews to test their skills while providing plenty of entertainment for spectators.

Thursday, July 18th: One of the highlights of the regatta is the Parade of Sail. Beginning at 10:30am, and starting near the Higher Ferry, the parade will proceed down the river, passing the Embankment and the Lower Ferry before heading out to sea. This is a must-see for anyone in Dartmouth, as the procession of classic boats is truly an impressive sight.

Racing in Start Bay will take place from 12 pm. A walk up towards Little Dartmouth along the Coastal Path is a must, and offers some of the best views, allowing you to witness the competition up close while enjoying the stunning coastal scenery.

Thursday evening shifts the focus from the water to the heart of Dartmouth with a supper party in the Old Market Square for the crews. Between 5 and 7 pm, a strolling jazz band will fill the town with music, adding to the festive atmosphere. Expect a vibrant atmosphere throughout Dartmouth, with bustling bars and terraces, an excellent opportunity for locals and visitors to mingle.

Friday, July 19th: The racing continues in Start Bay, commencing at 10am. Once again, the Coastal Path offers an excellent vantage point to watch these beautiful vessels in action against the stunning backdrop of the bay.
